My first race of 2010 will be the Komen Race for the Cure in 4 weeks! This race is a 5K (3.1 miles). 5K is my least favorite distance to race. However, I am a big fan of breast cancer research. Even though, I do not know anyone personally who has been affected by breast cancer.
I am still mourning missing my half marathon in March. The half marathon was supposed to kick off my 2010 race schedule. That was the first time I've missed a race AND the first time I've ever had strep. Plus, I am sure I gave my doctor another story to tell about us crazy runners.
While sleeping all day the Wednesday before the race, I knew I was sick. I told myself I should "rest" so I'd be ready to run the half marathon on Sunday. On Thursday, I crawled into my doctor's office on my hands and knees with a 103 fever. I asked her if she could "give me a shot of something, anything because I had a half marathon on Sunday". Her reply was not what I wanted to hear so I cried like a baby. Yes, I cried in the doctor's office when she told me I would not be well enough to "run anywhere on Sunday".
My course record, set in 2008, is 29:58. My goal is to set a new record. My stretch goal is 26:55. In real life, anything less than 29:58 will be wonderful!
